The Jaunt jacket is sized for the American market which is more full in the chest and shoulders than some European designs. We tried a size Medium jacket on Huey and an XL on Dewey (our Fit Check mannequins) and they fit just fine. You can see some shots of how they look by clicking the “View Larger Images” link above. Most people will find a fit by ordering the size they usually wear in men’s clothing. If you are sometimes between sizes, I’d advise choosing the smaller.
FirstGear publishes a chart which summarizes the max chest and max waist/belly for each size and we’ve included that below. I found this jacket to match up to the chart pretty well. I think the max belly figures below are a touch smaller than the actual jackets measures, so I’d say the max belly for any given size is about 4” less than the max chest. For example, in a size Large, the max chest is 44” and the max belly is about 40”.
These jackets have Velcro straps on the sides of the torso to help customize the fit for those with a trim waist. They also have adjusters on each arm to take up some of the extra material in the bicep area.
Overall, I found the fit of the Jaunt to be quite generous in sleeve and body length. Tall sizes are available too, which adds about 2” to the sleeve and body length. If you only sometimes in need of a tall in men’s clothing, I’d advise you to try the standard jacket first because of the already-generous length.
Our Two Cents
The charcoal colorway is much more green in person, not the dark brown/bronze pictured in the images provided by FirstGear.
FirstGear has updated their long running Jaunt jacket model for 2019. The Jaunt is a moderately priced jacket with a very full feature list. There is a lot of bang for your buck here including a removable thermal liner and shoulder/elbow armor by Knox included.
The first Jaunt model jacket by Firstgear was from 2010 and then came an update in 2013 called the Jaunt T2. As the Jaunt T2 was discontinued we sold hundreds (maybe even 1000) of this jacket on closeout. People loved that jacket! At the full price it was a bargain because of the practical construction, easy fit and good quality. This new Jaunt for 2019 seem to follow the same pattern for value.
The Jaunt is FirstGear’s “3/4” style” jacket which is aimed at commuters, everyday street riders and touring rider. The 3/4 style jacket is longer and covers more of your torso than shorter waist jackets. The longer style will block wind and shed water better too. This type of jacket can inherently have more pockets than shorter jackets too. This one has four pockets in front and two inside. Sometimes a longer style jacket like this will bunch up a bit in front when you sit on the bike, but this jacket has a “two way” front zipper so you can zip up from the bottom allowing the lower part of the front torso of the jacket to drape over your lap. It’s a neat feature to have on a longer jacket.
This is a solid textile jacket (not mesh) and it has a built in waterproof liner. So this style will be good for wet weather encounters and will work great in mild to cold weather. There is a removable thermal liner that you can snap into place for the coldest days. You will be able to extend the useful temp range of this jacket with the zippered venting on the sleeves and front torso. There are also a couple zips on the back of the jacket to exhaust incoming air. The zippers are waterproof and will allow air to pass through the shell, but the waterproof barrier is behind those zippers so you won’t get air flow through to your skin, so don’t expect much venting from this style. Its mostly a 3 season style (not summer).
The new version has “brand name” armor by Knox installed in the shoulders and elbows. It is CE 1 and is a soft rubber compound that is easy to wear. The jackets are set up also for the addition of a back protector.
Interested in pants? FirstGear has a matching Jaunt Overpant in their lineup for 2019 that would be great. I’ve linked to pants at the bottom of this page so you can have a look.
In this jacket’s price range, it is a well made and feature filled product for every day riders. It is also comfortable and easy to fit :: Paul, 04-26-19

I used my new Jaunt jacket, Klim riding pants, and Klim helmet while providing a motorcycle escort for Wreaths across America. The Jaunt liner kept me warm on this47 F morning! Keep up the good work! (Read more...)
Well made-fits great. Lots of usable features. Has storm flap over front zipper-many cold weather jackets don't. Bonus! Only criticism is inside pocket is small-won't fit my Samsung S-6 which is not necessarily a large phone. Solution-used outsid... (Read more...)
