I am a happy owner of the Oxtar Matrix boot from about 8 or so years ago. Bought from Motorcycle Gear (back in the day New Enough). I've ridden maybe on the order of 60,000 miles with the old boots, in all sorts of weather, rain and desert shine. For the last couple years I've used a rubber-band to keep the Velcro closed on the upper part. Yeah, I know, I'm a cheap-skate and miser. These boots were so comfortable and still loads of miles left on the tread. After a lot of searching, I decided to try a new pair of Sidi boots that seemed comparable. Not so on sizing, and the leather was a lot stiffer. Woulda still returned if they'd fit. The stiffness wasn't what I want in a boot. I then bit the bullet and ordered another pair of Gortex Oxtar's, ok, TCX's. Made it here in a flash, and my returned Sidi's were quickly credited to my account. I do wish these boots had the lower cover over the zipper as I loved that about the older generation. I don't see it being an issue with the function or life of the zipper really, just like it to be hidden. The inside gator goes all the way up, so the exposed zipper won't be scary in the wet. These new boots are a bit tighter than the older generation when slipping in, primarily around the ankle, but once on, they fit like a glove, or nice fitting boot. The width is a little narrow, though not uncomfortably so. I've got a moderately wide 9.5 foot, but the crafty European fitment works, even with making my foot look fashionable enough for a night at a Milan night-club. I've only worn them around the house to break them in, but they're getting there very quickly. I believe they'll be just like my now retired Matrix boots. Comfortable enough to wear for hours on end on the bike, and the same for walking, be it grass, dirt, gravel, or hard floor. I'm a believer in genuine Gortex, as the breathability and weather protection is truly wonderful. So well worth the extra $$ to get the Gortex.
