Sizing Information

We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and the main conclusion was that the pants run a bit small in the waist as compared to REV’IT’s published sizing chart. The inseams however are very well represented in their chart.

What we’ve done is to develop a chart for you that shows each pant size and REV’IT’s published size estimate of waist alongside our own estimate of size. We’d advise you to choose a pant size based upon our sizing estimates of course.

As you can see in the chart, the pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so choose the inseam you normally wear in slacks or jeans. The pants also have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length) which can be accessed by pulling each leg inside out. Velcro allows you set the armor in different spots and you can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position it seems best. Neat!

Also, the pants have a set of Velcro waist adjusters at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We indicate a 2” range in our chart which was about the amount we judged the adjustment range to be.

Pant Size REV’IT Estimate Our Estimate Inseam Reg Inseam Short Inseam Tall

48 33-34 30-32 31 - 33

52 36-37 33-35 32 30 34

Measurement tip: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles (so relying just upon the size jeans you buy might result in motorcycle pants that are too small). Right below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement. For a pant leg style like this that goes over the boots, you can typically choose an inseam based upon what you normally wear in jeans or slacks.

Our Two Cents

The Gear 2 pants from REV’IT are pretty unique as compared to pants offered by our other brands. The combination of the leather and flow-thru textile construction allows for a design that could be comfortable in a wide range of temps and also offer better-than-most crash protection (see my further comments about the matching Ignition 2 jacket… take the link below). The pants are sharp and make a great looking suit when paired with the Ignition jacket. There is certainly no wondering if you are a serious rider while wearing this combo! Like the jacket, these pants will be good for about three seasons out of the year. The non-leather areas of the pant are a flow-through mesh/textile. The material is very sturdy feeling… more so than typical mesh jackets/pants which are a bit on the limp side. This material, along with the leather in the impact prone areas, gives a very secure feeling. There are a lot of nice touches incorporated into these pants. For example, the closure at the waist is a combination of a steel hook and a snap. The is the best way to secure a leather pant because single or double snaps alone can pop open easily, and a Velcro-close waist belt is thicker and has to be reset each time. Anyway, not to go on and on about every little feature, but REV’IT does indeed engineer their products very well and the quality is evident. Like the jacket, the pants have a removable waterproof/windproof barrier that can block airflow and make the pants useful down to lower temps. It does not have a thermal liner like the jacket, but I don’t think you’ll need one. I’ve worn pants on a bike and they always feel warmer than a similarly constructed jacket. Your legs are better shielded from air flow, there is engine heat, and you have boots which all add to the relative warmness. And besides, I’ve reviewed lots of pants that had a two liner system, and they get bulky and look sort of clownish, especially in larger sizes. In a suit like the Ignition/Gear, you don’t want to look clownish right? I thought not :). Please take the “View Larger Images” link above to see all these features in our close-up photo gallery. There are some night shots too that show how the reflectivity strips work. Overall, a very nice style that looks as good as they will perform. :: Paul, 10-03-12

Note About Hip Armor: In Spring of 2014 Rev’It! made a decision to stop including EVA foam hip pads in their pants because they are preparing to conform to recent European standards that will require every part of a garment to provide a minimum level of protection and they anticipate that the foam hip pads previously offered would not meet the requirement. As an option, you can purchase CE certified hip protectors (see below) :: Paul, 04-09-14
