Sizing Information

We checked the sizing of this style with our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. The mannequins are wearing size Medium and XL jackets respectively which are their “usual” sizes. The fit of the jackets is snug. We also measured a selection of jackets and confirmed that they run about one size smaller than most US branded gear, so that means most people will find a fit by buying one size larger than they normally would choose. Just for reference, we are finding the fit of most new 2017 gear from both the Tour Master and Cortech brands to run about one size smaller than in past years.

Given the snug sizing issue, we highly recommend that you measure your chest and belly and confirm your size choice based upon your measurements. The chart below shows the measured max chest and belly for each size jacket. The figures in the chart come from our measurements of jacket samples. Our finding also match up with Cortech’s latest size chart for apparel introduced in 2017 and later.

These jackets taper moderately from chest to waist… about 3”. If you have a bit of a belly, just make sure the size you choose is big enough for your belly as well as your chest. For example, we list the size XL as a 44 max chest and so the max belly for that jacket would be about 41. If your belly/waist is smaller than this, it shouldn’t be a problem because the jackets have a lot of adjustability in the waist.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Max Belly Sleeve Length
XS 36 33 25
Small 38 35 25.5
Medium 40 37 26
Large 42 39 26.5
XL 44 41 27
XXL 46 43 27.5
XXXL 51 48 27.5
XXXXL 54 51 28

Our Two Cents

The Cortech GX Sport Air 5.0 for 2017 is slightly updated from version 4.0. Functionally they are almost identical jacket, but the styling has been updated, the armor is a slightly new style, the zippers look more rubut and the overall sizing is trimmed down just a bit (see our advice above).

The GX Sport Air 5.0 is primarily a full mesh summer jacket. The shell is mostly flow through mesh, so without the removable liners in use, the air will flow right through and so you can be comfortable in the hottest weather.

To extend the comfortable temp range, this jacket goes a little further than most other full mesh jackets. It includes TWO removable liners. One is a full sleeve rainproof and windproof liner and then you also get a zip in thermal vest-type liner. You can use either or both in combination to stay comfortable when you encounter cooler weather and or wet weather. It really is a nice setup.

For impact protection you get elbow and shoulder armor which is the molded rubber CE rated protectors like you find in almost any new style jacket these days. And the back pad is a lightweight foam unit. To enhance the jacket’s abrasion protection characteristics, there are heavy duty textile overlays on the shoulders and elbows (the most likely impact areas).

We like this fully mesh style for summer use and even spring and fall with the liners in use. Its a good value with sharp styling. :: Paul, 12-21-17
