Sizing Information
We measured each jacket size and tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and an XL on Dewey. This is the sizes they normally wear and they fit fine.
This Speed and Strength jacket is an “easy fit” and is generously sized. My primary advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If you are between sizes I’d advise you to go down. I notice the sleeve length on these jacket is generous so average to tall riders should find a good fit.
If you want to double check your sizing by measuring your chest, you can use the chart below to choose a size. The Max Chest sizes listed by Speed and Strength are a bit bigger than many manufacturer’s conversion charts, and that confirms our suggestion that people who are between sizes should choose the smaller.
Size | Max Chest | Sleeve |
---|---|---|
Small | 38-40 | 32 |
Medium | 40-42 | 33 |
Large | 42-44 | 34 |
XL | 46-48 | 35 |
XXL | 50-52 | 36 |
XXXL | 54-56 | 36.5 |
XXXXL | 58-60 | 36.5 |
XXXXXL | 61-63 | 37 |
If you have a bit of a belly, you might want to put a tape around it and make sure the size you are choosing will work for the belly as well. The max belly sizes for any jacket size will be about 4” smaller than the max chest listed. For example, the size XL will handle up to a max 48” chest and a max 44” belly.
Our Two Cents
The Dark Horse leather jacket is a premium leather riding jacket that looks sharp and has styling that would appeal to a wide range of riders.
The leather used in this jacket is soft and feel like very high quality to me. The finish is not shiny like some premium jackets, but rather is more of a “satin” finish. Take a look at the closeup photos and you’ll see the jacket has perforated leather ares on the insides of the sleeves and behind the shoulders. These perfs will help make the jacket more comfortable in warmer weather, but since this is a largely a solid leather jacket, it will work best in cooler (maybe cold with your own undergarment layering) to warm weather, but it won’t be comfortable in hot weather,
I like how the jacket has the large “action back” feature behind both shoulders so the jacket will give when you reach forward. And the sleeves are somewhat pre-curved for the riding position. I thought this jacket fit really well when I tried on my size. It is a casual enough cut to be comfortable, but no too loose like some more cruiser oriented styles.
This jacket comes with CE armor inserts in the shoulders and elbows and a back protector also. The armor isn’t “name brand” but it is decent stuff and the back pad feels more substantial than most “stock” back protectors, so there is nothing else to add. You also get a concealed carry pocket just inside the main zipper. It is lined with sturdy canvas and has a strap inside to help anchor your cargo inside the pocket.
I really like the styling and the quality of the leather here. Very nice as compared to several past styles I’ve seen by SS. I’m impressed. :: Paul, 04-02-18
